Watching The Ocean Move

I used to live 10 minutes from the ocean. Now I live about an hour in a half to an hour away, depending on LA traffic. I didn’t realize how much positive energy you can feel by being that close to the ocean until I moved to the valley (Burbank, CA).

It took some time, but I’m really starting to love Burbank, CA even more. It’s quiet, not too large and not too small. There are never any large lines of people waiting to get into a restaurant or grocery store. Everything you need is practically within walking distance from where I live. Compared to the chaotic crowd on the westside of LA, everything over here is just easy, calm, and nice.

I say all this because a part of me was missing some of that chaos the other day. It’s crazy, but I didn’t really mind fighting through traffic to finally reach a calm relaxing place like the ocean. It’s so massive, and there’s a strong positive feeling I get when I’m close to it listening to the sounds that surround it.

So I decided to jump on my motorcycle and take a little ride to the westside. My goal was to see the ocean. What I took with me was my Fujifilm X-Pro 2 with the 23mm f2 lens along with my 80-200mm f4 FD lens. Below are some images I took while spending a couple of hours down by the ocean near the Venice Beach pier. Enjoy and be inspired.

Josiah Myers

Born in Michigan, I grew up surrounded by art, music, and travel. My mother was a contemporary artist, and my dad was a minister and a musician. Every summer, my family traveled to Brownsville, Cuidad Victoria, and Matamoros for mission work. Being one of six kids, I liked being in my own creative space where my imagination met storytelling. Growing up to the sounds of artists like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Led Zeplin, and James Taylor would continue to influence my artistic expression.

When I worked on the yearbook for our high school, my love of photography, layout, and design began. Upon graduating, I studied graphic design at the Art Institute of Charlotte, NC, and the Art Institute in Santa Monica, CA. Over the 10+ years of working in the advertising industry, my passion and eye for photography and the motorcycle culture have grown. Every year, I raise funds and bring awareness to men's mental health and prostate cancer for the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride.

I am based out of Los Angeles, always ready to ride and willing to travel.
