Inspired to Create

I’m sure there’s a lot of other creatives who run into this same issue. How can I make my work different from others in my same profession? When I would post and scroll through my social media, I noticed that there are so many motorcycle/lifestyle photographers. That was when I looked back at my work, trying to think of a way to showcase it that’s different and unique from what others were showing.

I often do and ask myself, “how can I make my work better, and what can I do to push my creativity.” I came across a photo of a couple of musicians, and the way the photographer positioned them reminded me of movie posters I’ve seen throughout my lifetime. That’s when this vision hit me about how I could take my photos and create a narrative accompanied by a film poster. I wanted to create something that would take viewers on a journey or bring up any emotions from what they were seeing.

Many rough drafts later, I put together a short series of film posters inspired by the movies and escaping reality to get lost on an adventure.

I hope this inspires you to go out and create your own stories.

Josiah Myers

Born in Michigan, I grew up surrounded by art, music, and travel. My mother was a contemporary artist, and my dad was a minister and a musician. Every summer, my family traveled to Brownsville, Cuidad Victoria, and Matamoros for mission work. Being one of six kids, I liked being in my own creative space where my imagination met storytelling. Growing up to the sounds of artists like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Led Zeplin, and James Taylor would continue to influence my artistic expression.

When I worked on the yearbook for our high school, my love of photography, layout, and design began. Upon graduating, I studied graphic design at the Art Institute of Charlotte, NC, and the Art Institute in Santa Monica, CA. Over the 10+ years of working in the advertising industry, my passion and eye for photography and the motorcycle culture have grown. Every year, I raise funds and bring awareness to men's mental health and prostate cancer for the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride.

I am based out of Los Angeles, always ready to ride and willing to travel.
